Situated on the Solway Firth in Dumfries and Galloway, South-West
Scotland, Kippford has operated an inshore lifeboat station for more than 40 years.
HRH
The Duke of Kent visited the station in 2005, to recognise the commitment of the lifeboat crews and fundraisers whilst HRH
Prince Andrew visited the station in November 2009 to officially launch Kippford’s new D-Class rescue boat.
Up until 1999, Kippford was only operational during the summer months when call-outs are at their highest. The
area is a popular destination with visitors and holidaymakers as the Solway Coast provides not only a spectacular and unspoilt
coastline, but also some excellent sandy beaches.
Like all RNLI stations, Kippford is manned entirely
by volunteers who are ready to respond to emergency call-outs at any time of the day or night.
The
RNLI, which provides lifeboat rescue services throughout the UK and Ireland, is itself a registered charity and relies solely
on voluntary contributions and donations from the public to continue its life-saving work. Click here for details.
