Kippford RNLI crew's Tractor Challenge in May raised a total of £10,597.59.
The crew took to the road with a de-commissioned D-Class boat towed by a tractor for the round Scotland trip, visiting nearly
every Lifeboat Station in Scotland on a 1,230-mile journey.
They set off from Kippford on Saturday, May 22nd, with crew members working in relays as they visited
a total of 38 RNLI lifeboat stations around Scotland before returning to Kippford on Saturday, May 29th.
The boat they used is now only
used for publicity and fundraising purposes and was pulled by a New Holland tractor kindly supplied by Bryson Tractors of
Lanark.
“We’re
especially grateful for the support we’ve had from businesses including New Holland and Bryson Tractors and the Peter
Ingram Partnership PR & Marketing in Newton Stewart,” said crew member, Billy Wilson.
The idea of the event was to raise awareness
of and funds for the RNLI which relies solely on charitable donations to fund its work. The RNLI does not receive a penny
from the Government.
The
RNLI's running costs average around £378,000 a day and lifeboats are launched around 8,000 times a year, saving
some 300 lives annually. The crew are pictured with a cheque
for £10,597.59 which has been handed over to the RNLI.
